Guest Recipe: Kisha's BBQ Tempeh

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce

  • 1 Tbsp liquid smoke

  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce (if you are vegetarian/vegan make sure you find a veggie friendly one!)

  • 1 Tsp paprika

  • Garlic (either a couple cloves minced or a couple shakes powdered)

  • salt to taste

Procedure:

  1. Cut up your tempeh into desired shape and size. If you are cooking on grill make sure it’s big enough to not fall through the cracks.

  2. Steam your tempeh in a steamer basket for 10 minutes. For this recipe, steaming is essential to make your tempeh take marination better and removes some of the bitter taste.

  3. While steaming, mix all ingredients to create a sauce.

  4. Add tempeh into sauce & coat well.

  5. Marinate room temperature for 1 hour or in fridge for up to 8 hours.

  6. When ready to grill make sure your grill has been sprayed with oil HEAVILY. Tempeh will stick to the grates!

  7. Grill tempeh on each side for approximately 4 minutes.

  8. Brush on excess sauce on tempeh while grilling.

  9. Enjoy!!

    Note: you can also bake this tempeh or cook indoors on a cast iron skillet.
